Extra information that could help us when you report a suspected fraud
The more information that you can give us, the easier it is for us to work out a person's correct entitlement.
Situations where there could be fraud
Here are some situations where fraud might be committed. It’s not a complete list, so if you are aware of a situation that’s not here, still make sure you contact the Allegation Line on 0800 556 006.
- They are receiving a Student Allowance or Student Loan and no longer studying.
- They are using a false identity or details to receive student support.
- They are not declaring all their income.
- They live with a partner but say they’re living alone.
- They live with their parents but say they’re living away.
- Their parents’ or partner’s income has changed and not been declared.
- They have gone overseas and haven’t told StudyLink.
- They have withdrawn from a course, dropped a paper or changed their course and not told StudyLink.
- They are getting a benefit for a child whom they are not caring for.
- An education provider is not delivering the courses they have charged fees for.
Extra information
Here are some of the things we may need to know to help us investigate your report. If you don’t know any of these things, you can still contact the Allegation Line on 0800 556 006.
- the full name of the person who you think is committing fraud
- any other names they are known by
- their sex
- their address and phone number
- their age and date of birth
- the type of assistance you think they're getting fraudulently
- any other information about them such as their previous address or car registration.
And if relevant
- the name and address of their employer or business
- how long they’ve been doing this work
- how they’re being paid
- where else they are getting income from – such as rental property, trusts or shares
- how much they get and how often
- the name of their partner and/or parents
- the name and age of any child no longer in their care, when the child left, where the child is living and who with
- the name of the education provider and the course or courses involved.
