Recent changes to the Step Up Scholarship

19 December 2007

From 1 January 2008 the Step Up Scholarship is changing.

Students will need to be eligible for a Student Allowance and aged between 16 and 24.

The current human and animal health stream and the science or technology stream are being replaced with two new streams.

One will be for students who are entering tertiary education for the first time to do their first bachelor degree.

The second will be for students who have completed a tertiary qualification that is below bachelor degree and who are starting a targeted bachelor degree.

There will be no $3000 minimum fee restriction on yearly course fees, which used to apply to the scholarship, and you will only have to pay the first $1,000 of your fees each year.

The scholarship can be paid for the number of years it usually takes to get your bachelor degree and can include an intermediate year of study. For example, if you are enrolled in a three year degree, and you continue to meet the Terms and Conditions of the scholarship, you will receive the scholarship for the duration of your study.

You can apply for the Step Up Scholarship from October. Check back here for more information closer to that time.
