2009 Annual General Adjustment Changes

06 March 2009

Student Allowance rates and thresholds and Student Loan living costs are changing from 1 April 2009.

What is the Annual General Adjustment?

The Annual General Adjustment occurs (with effect from 1 April) each year to ensure that the rates of New Zealand Superannuation/Veterans Pension, Social Security benefits and Student Allowances, Community Services Card thresholds and other assistance keep pace with changes in the price of goods and services purchased by New Zealand households.

Student Allowance rates and threshold changes

Changes have been made to the Student Allowance rates as part of the Annual General Adjustment. There have also been increases in the Personal and Joint Income thresholds as well as the Parental Income threshold.

These new rates and thresholds take effect from 1 April 2009 and are listed in the PDF table. The increased rates will happen automatically and will be applied to the first payment in the week starting 6 April 2009.

Student Loan living costs increase

The maximum available under the Living Costs component of Student Loans will increase by $5.24 to $160.24 per week, from 1 April 2009.
