Do you have an alternative contact person?
22 August 2012
From 27 August 2012, you’ll need to give us the details of an alternative contact person when you apply for a Student Loan.
Borrowers will need to provide StudyLink with an alternative contact person based in New Zealand each time they apply for a Student Loan for study starting on or after 1 January 2013. If you already have a Student Loan, you don’t need to do anything until next time you apply.
These details are passed to Inland Revenue (IR). IR will only contact your person if you have an overdue Student Loan repayment and they can’t reach you, for example if you are overseas.
Your alternative contact person can be anyone you like. We suggest a close friend or family member so they will know how to contact you if Inland Revenue can’t. Your contact person isn’t liable for your repayments, and they can’t make changes to your loan or view your details. Their role is simply to help Inland Revenue get in touch with you.
