Studying in second semester

29 May 2012

Make sure you read this article if you’re going to be studying in second semester.

Returning to study after semester one

If you're planning on returning to study for semester two, you need to make sure your finances are sorted before it starts.
If you received a Student Allowance or Student Loan in semester one, make sure you check your study dates in the application details section of MyStudyLink.

  • If your study dates only include semester one and you are returning to study the same course at the same education provider, please call us on 0800 88 99 00 once you've enrolled and we'll reconfirm your study details with your education provider.
  • If you have changed courses or you are studying at a different education provider in semester two you will need to reapply for student finance for the second semester.

Applying for a Student Loan - You need to know your results

If you've received a Student Loan for study ending in 2009 or later, and completed 1.6 EFTS of study since then you'll need to know whether you have passed at least half of all this study before you apply for your new loan.

If you're not sure, we recommend that you wait until you know your study results from semester one or check with your education provider. You can change your declaration later by letting us know in writing.

So, if you're reapplying for study in second semester, sign up when you apply online.
We'll send you an email or text when you have new mail to view.

Payments over the study break

The length of your study break will determine if you are still able to receive your Student Allowance payments and/or Student Loan living costs payments over this period.
