Making your application
When you apply online this year, there are a few extra things you should know:
StudyLink is now using igovt as its logon service for MyStudyLink and Apply Online. To apply online you will need to create an igovt logon. If you are first time student then apply under the First Time Student heading, if you have had a Student Loan or Allowance from us in the past then apply under the Returning Student heading.
If you are a returning student and already have a StudyLink logon, there are a few extra steps that you will need to do, so you can continue to access your information using the igovt logon.
Note: From 1 July the igovt logon service became the RealMe service. If you have a igovt logon, you will still login to RealMe using your current igovt username and password.

Returning to study in 2013?
If you are applying for your 2013 student finance - You need to know your results
If you've received a Student Loan for study ending in 2009 or later, and completed 1.6 EFTS of study since then you'll need to know whether you have passed at least half of all this study before you apply for your new loan.
If you're not sure, we recommend that you wait until you get your study results this year, and apply online as soon as you know. You can change your declaration later by letting us know in writing.
Budget 2012 changes to Student Allowance and Loans
Changes to Student Allowances and Student Loans were announced in Budget 2011 and 2012, the majority of these changes come into effect from 2013, including
- The Student Allowance will no longer be available for postgraduate study that starts on or after 1 January 2013 (except Bachelor degrees with Honours).
- All exemptions to the 200 week limit for Student Allowance will be removed from 1 January 2013, except for special circumstances.
- From 1 January 2013, students are only able to borrow for up to 2 EFTS worth of study each year.
