New Zealand Superannuation
If you currently receive New Zealand Superannuation, this is how becoming a student would affect you.
General criteria
You can study full-time or part-time and still receive New Zealand Superannuation payments. If you are studying full-time, and your study starts before 1 January 2011, you may also qualify for a Student Allowance.
Your Student Allowance may be reduced by any payments (including New Zealand Superannuation) that you and your partner are receiving.
You cannot receive the living costs component of the Student Loan.
From 1 January 2011 people receiving New Zealand Superannuation will no longer be able to receive a Student Allowance at the same time.
