Help with work costs
The Student Allowance Transfer Grant is to help if you have a partner or a child and are in hardship because your Student Allowance has stopped and you’re waiting for your benefit to start. This is a one off payment usually made during your stand-down.
General Student Allowance Transfer Grant criteria
You may be able to get it if:- you're transferring from Student Allowance to a main benefit
- you have a partner and your combined income in your stand-down week is under certain limits, or you have a child or children in your care
- you are considered to be in hardship

you apply for the grant no later than the week after your course finishes (you have 5 working days starting from the Monday after the week your course finishes).
