What limited full-time is and how to apply

If you are not studying full-time, you could be eligible for what's called limited full-time status. This is when you're not studying full-time but are treated as a full-time student when applying for financial help.

You may qualify for limited full-time status if:

- you've had advice from your education provider to study less than full-time for one of the following reasons:
  • you have an illness or disability that stops you studying full-time or
  • it's in your best interest to study less than full-timeĀ or
  • you can't study full-time for sufficient cause outside your control.

Or

- you're finishing a recognised programme and to do this you need to study less than full-time but more than half the work of a full-time course.

Please note - being approved limited full-time when you receive a Student Loan is not the same as being full-time for interest write-off purposes.

Limited full-time can be applied to your Student Loan or Student Allowance.

How to apply for limited full-time status

To apply for limited full-time status you need to fill in a Limited full-time application and a Student Allowance or Student Loan application.
