Setting up your MyStudyLink account
To have access to MyStudyLink you need to have an online account.
When you apply online, you will be set up with an online account as part of the application process. Once your application has been processed and we have received all of your identity documents, such as a copy of your birth certificate or passport (if we haven't already seen it), we will confirm your username and you will be sent a new password. You can then access your MyStudyLink account.
Your first login to MyStudyLink
The first time you login, there are extra steps you need to take to ensure the security of your account.
You'll need to change your password, create and confirm a passphrase, and create a challenge question each for your password and passphrase - so that if you forget either of them, you can reset them yourself.
Here are the full steps for your first login.
1. Enter your username and temporary password.
2. Change your password. Your password:
- must be between 8 and 15 characters long, letters and numbers only
- must contain at least 1 letter and 1 number
- is lower case
- if being changed, the new password must be different from any of your last 3 previous passwords
- can be reset or changed in future by clicking "Reset your password?" on the login screen and answering your challenge question.
3 . Set up a passphrase. Remember it, as you'll need it for future logins. Your
passphrase:
- must be between 8 and 25 characters long
- can contain only letters and numbers (no special characters or spaces)
- is not case sensitive
- cannot have more than 2 repeating characters in a row (e.g. "book" is OK, "goook" is not)
- cannot contain your username
- if being changed, the new passphrase must be different from any previous passphrase
- can be reset or changed in future by clicking "Reset your password?" and answering your challenge question after you have logged in.
4. Set up a challenge question to help you remember your password.
If you forget your password or passphrase in future, you can reset them if you
can answer your challenge questions.
Answers to challenge questions:
- must be six to 30 characters long, letters and numbers only
- must be different for password and passphrase
- cannot contain spaces
- are not case sensitive
- cannot be all the same character, e.g. aaaaaaaaaaaaa
- cannot start with any of these combinations: qwerty, asdfgh, zxcvbn, 123456
- can be changed when you're in MyStudyLink - click "Update login details"
5. Set up a separate challenge question to help you remember your passphrase.
6. Confirm your passphrase.
7. Accept the Terms and Conditions.
Future logins to MyStudyLink
For future logins, you'll only need to enter your:
- username
- password
- characters from your passphrase.
If you forget your password
If you've forgotten your password, you can reset this yourself online by going to the login page of MyStudyLink and selecting 'Reset your Password'. Make sure you reset this before you log in. You will need to answer the challenge question you have set up.
If your MyStudyLink account has been locked because you have made five unsuccessful attempts to log in, you will need to wait five minutes and your account will be unlocked. You can then try again or reset your password if you need to.
Please note, your new password must be different from any of your last 3 previous passwords.
