Transcript: How to apply online and set up an account

We follow Jessica as she talks about how to apply online and set up an account.

Jessica is using her laptop, sitting at the kitchen bench in her flat and is going to show you how to apply online.  She says:

Hi, I'm going to show you how to set up an account and apply online.

When you apply for your student finances online, the first part of the application is a questionnaire to find out what kinds of assistance you may be eligible for. Everyone has to go through this questionnaire, even if you know what you want to apply for.    It only takes about 10 minutes and at the end of the questionnaire you will be told what you may be eligible for. You can then select what you would like to apply for.

If you're not ready to apply, you can save your application at any point and come back to it later.  To save an application you will need to create an online account, or login using your MyStudyLink details.   Your saved details will only be held for five days.

Cut back to Jessica,

Using this account will mean that some of your details will automatically pre-fill into your application form.

If you don't have a MyStudyLink account, then it's best to create one now.   You can not apply without creating an online account.  Let's create an account now.

Remember the eligibility test is part of the application that everyone has to go through first.

Cut back to Jessica,

Now you're ready to go, remember, when you get to the end of the application process you have not actually made an application unless you click "submit".  When you click "submit", StudyLink receives and processes your online application.   StudyLink will then send you a letter about the status of your application and whether you need to send us any documents or other information.

As part of the application process you created an online account and once StudyLink confirms your identity (by seeing your passport or birth certificate) you'll be sent a new password so you can access MyStudyLink, so you can manage your information online.

So that's it your ready to go.
