What You Can Get

What You Can Get is an online tool that can tell you what kinds of study support and assistance you may be eligible for.

Brief questionnaire

What You Can Get will tell you the ways that StudyLink may be able to help fund your study.  It will tell you the assistance types (but it won't give you a dollar amount).

You answer a brief questionnaire - around 10 minutes.  Questions include:

  •  your residency status
  •  whether you have a partner, and children
  •  your accommodation
  •  your study - full-time or part-time, full year or part year.

Please note that the questionnaire is not an application.  You will still need to make an application to StudyLink

Before you apply

Before you apply online, you will need to fill out What You Can Get.  This is to ensure that we get your current study circumstances so we can tell you what you may be eligible for.

Please note you will need to do this each time you want to apply.

Online account

If you already have an online account with StudyLink, log on using your igovt username ans password before you start the What You Can Get eligibility test.  Some of your personal details will pre-fill into the questionnaire.

Based on your answers, you’ll find out which of these you are eligible for:

  •  Student Allowance
  •  Student Loan
  •  Accommodation Supplement
  •  Temporary Additional Support
  •  Disability Allowance
  •  Child Disability Allowance
  •  Childcare Subsidy
  •  OSCAR (Out of School Care and Recreation).

When you’ve completed the questionnaire

When you’ve completed the questionnaire, you can:

  •  go ahead and apply online, or
  •  save your results - the system will keep them for only five days, or
  •  exit without saving the answers.

If you save your results, and go on to apply within five days, you won't have to repeat the questionnaire, and your details will pre-fill into the online application form.

Please note that the questionnaire is not an application.  You will still need to make an application to StudyLink.

Extra Help

There are some forms of assistance that What You Can Get does not cover.

A note about browsers

To check what you can get online you'll need to be using one of the following web browsers:

  • Internet Explorer 6, 7, 8
  • Firefox 2.0, 3, 3.5
  • Safari 3, 4
  • Mozilla
  • Konqueror 3.5.9
  • Epiphany

We're working on extending StudyLink's What You Can Get tool to more browsers, but for now it is not compatible with Opera 9.x. If that's the browser you're using, you'll need to contact us to access StudyLink services.
