Families in need get more financial support from 1 April 2016
01 April 2016.
Student Allowance rates for families with children will increase by $25 a week.
This increase is automatic for students that have provided evidence of their children. Students that haven’t supplied evidence of their children are not able to receive the increased payment until they have sent in the requested evidence. The exact amount will depend on the student’s tax code and any other income.
The increase is part of the Child Hardship package which takes effect from 1 April 2016. It provides increased benefit and Student Allowance rates for low-income families and additional support and expectations to help more clients into work, study or training.
The Ministry of Social Development and Inland Revenue is responsible for delivering this package.
