First time students can prove their identity online with RealMe

Students applying for a Student Allowance or Loan for the first time for study in 2016, will need to prove their identity. Instead of sending in your passport or birth certificate, you can sign up for a RealMe verified identity online.
Using a RealMe verified identity
Verify your identity through the RealMe service and use it to prove who you are online with any organisation that uses RealMe.
Follow these quick and easy steps to set up your RealMe verified identity before you apply.
- Create a RealMe login at the RealMe website.
- Verify your identity online.
- Go to a PostShop and get your photo taken – you will receive an email once your identity is confirmed.
- Apply online for your student finances.
If you were not born in New Zealand you will need to prove your residency status.
