Break between study
If you have a break in your study of more than 3 weeks, your Student Loan and Student Allowance payments may stop.
Break of 3 weeks or less
If your Student Loan or Student Allowance application is:
- approved for your next block of study your payments may be able to continue
- declined for your next block of study, you won't get payments through your break.
If you haven't applied for a loan or allowance for your next block of study after your break finishes, you may be able to extend your study without re-applying for a loan or allowance.
Change of circumstances
If you have any changes (eg, income) you need to let us know as it could affect your payments.
Break of more than 3 weeks
We may be able to help you with expenses during your break but it depends on what you're going to do.
Work during your break
If you're going to look for full-time work during your break, you may be able to get the Jobseeker Support Student Hardship.
If your application is approved, you'll usually receive your first payment in the third week of your break. This can be later if you received holiday or redundancy pay. This is because you usually have a 1 week stand-down and we make payments 1 week in arrears.
Can't work because of health condition or disability
If you can't work during your break because of a health condition or disability, you may be able to get Jobseeker Support Student Hardship.

Go overseas
