Your RealMe login

You need a RealMe login to apply online and access MyStudyLink.

RealMe login is a secure service used by many government agencies and other organisations. It gives you a single login to multiple online services, and if you upgrade to a RealMe verified identity, it also works as your online ID.

Keep your RealMe details up to date so you can easily recover your username or password if you need to.

Narrator [00:00:01:0]: To use StudyLink’s online services you're going to need a RealMe login. RealMe as a secure login service managed by the Department of Internal Affairs. There are two types of logins. RealMe verified identity or RealMe standard login. A verified identity as a bit more involved than a standard RealMe login. You will need to have your photo taken and provide identity information. But you won't need to provide your identity documents to us when you apply for a Student Allowance or Loan.

Narrator [00:00:32:16]: If you want to use a RealMe verified identity, you'll need to make sure you set one up well in advance of applying. It can take a bit of time for DIA to confirm your identity. But if that's not for you or you're worried, you've left it too late, the standard RealMe login is the simplest option and you can use it straight away.

Narrator [00:00:51:06]: You can create this login when you apply via StudyLink but you’ll need to give us your identity documents after you've applied. All you need for setting this up as an email address and a password.

Staff member [00:01:02:23]: Please don't use a school email address, make sure you use your personal email.

Narrator [00:01:06:19]: You will use your RealMe login to access all of StudyLink’s online services including MyStudyLink and Connect. Make sure you only create one RealMe login as we link it to your client number.

You can use a RealMe login or a RealMe verified identity to apply online.

RealMe login

If you already have a RealMe login from another agency, you can use this to apply online.

If you don't have one, choose the option to create one when you're prompted to log in to apply online. You must have an email address to create a RealMe login.

If you’re applying for a Student Loan or Student Allowance for the first time, you’ll need to send us evidence of your identity, eg, a copy of your passport or birth certificate using Connect

Once we've received your evidence, you can access MyStudyLink

RealMe verified identity

A RealMe verified identity lets you prove who you are to any organisation that uses a RealMe login. If you haven't got a RealMe verified identity, you can apply for one on the RealMe website.

If you’re applying for a Student Loan or Student Allowance for the first time, you won't need to send us evidence of your identity.

If you used a RealMe Verified account to submit an application

You can log in to MyStudyLink as soon as you get a confirmation email that we've received your application.

If you verify your identity with RealMe after you submit an application

After your identity is verified with RealMe, you can log in to MyStudyLink. When you log in for the first time, you’ll be asked to agree to share your identity information with us before you can access your information in MyStudyLink.

RealMe - Verify your identity

If you’ve applied online for a Student Loan or Student Allowance before, you’ll need to use the same RealMe or igovt username to log in to MyStudyLink to apply again. This is because the RealMe username you’ve used before is already linked to your StudyLink account.

If you’ve forgotten either or both username and password, you can recover these details.
